Are flash intros dated?

FLASH INTROS? THAT’S SO ‘90’S.

Using flash animation on a site is a great way to grab a visitor’s attention. It entices you with the “wow” factor. It draws you into the site and makes you want to learn more. But this is usually not the case when it is used as a flash intro to your site. If a long introduction is the first thing to greet you on a site it can be a very annoying experience. Most people are in a hurry and don’t have the time or patience to sit and wait for a flash intro to download and view. And usually the animation is cheesy and unprofessional in appearance. These types of over the top animation sequences are usually the result of a well meaning web site designer, but the end result is an over indulgent display. Flash can be used on a site but it should be more subtle than an intro and used as an element of the site. An example of a flash element is usually seen on the site’s home page. Id doesn’t take up the entire page, but just a small portion on of, usually about 20-30% of it. This way users can watch the flash along with ready other content on the home page.
